DC Fashion Week 2011 kicks off February 21st, and runs until Sunday February 27th with a grand finale ending: the International Couture Collections at the French Embassy in Georgetown. Director Ean Williams organizes a week-long series of fashion events at multiple venues across the city twice a year – February and September – in an effort to highlight the nation’s capital as a frontrunner in international fashion. The influence of world cultures is a common theme, and this week will feature fashions from at least four Nigerian designers: Coco Couture, House of Jola, Berry Couture, and Sally Bawa Lagos. Last September, U.S. based 17 year-old Ivorian designer Alex Zohore debuted his designs at the International Couture Collections. That event also featured designs by Guyanese fashionista DonJ’ Moda.
